Cant get iPad to upgrade to 5?

With all the issues people have been having it might be good, but I have tried twice to upgrade, I do have a slow connection, nothing I can do about that with my dsl and att, but it takes 5-6 hours to download and then I get a time out message and advice to make sure the connection is there and to try again. I tried middle of the night the first time (left it on all night) then today tried the afternoon evening, same result. Has anyone else had this and how do they resolve it? Can we get iOS 5 on cd to use on pc and hook it up for update or? Tried just downloading and tried install, same difference.

Help?
I am new to apple my iPad1 is first device, got it with 4 installed from factory last
December.

Still having problems with the update. I have all things backed up, tried last night and got the same timed out message, not sure how to disable kaspersky, did try once but once it was turned off pc turned off too, presume protection wise. Do not like being online with no active AV anyway.
Was thinking to bring it into an apple store but for several reasons hesitate, it's very noisy nd have anxiety issues right now which escalate when I am in malls, as well as have hearing issues, again due to noise not sure would hear well enough. If it's updated there as have things updated and backed up at home, would I be able to restore them from home pc?

The timeout is not uncommon with slow internet connections.

The best way to avoid it is to manually download the firmware file and apply it via iTunes.

This guide includes the steps to manually download and install - http://www.ipadforums.net/jailbreak...lsafe-method-restore-current-version-ios.html

Since you have never been jailbroken you can safely omit Step 2, as there will be nothing wrong with your hosts file. You can probably omit Step 4 too, but there is no harm in doing it. But you MUST follow the other steps exactly as laid out.

Best of luck.

Yes. Once updated to iOS 5 you can sync the iPad on your PC and retrieve everything you backed up. I had a similar issue with my old computer running Windows XP.

Understanding your anxiety over crowds / noise, remember you can make an appointment, on line, for the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.
Arrive a few minutes before, get the update which will take minutes not hours, and leave.

Good luck.

Like the idea to manually download to pc and install via iTunes will look at that and see what thread says, thanks, Adam had thought about bringing it in fir update there as things backed up on my pc, but would that change things on my iPad so would be
difficult to sync with my iTunes? I am doing better but malls and noise doesn't bode well as well as hearing issues if I need to
hear what they say, glad I am not only one with problem, uploading pics to dropbox so will have them.
