Can't see photos on PC

I have two PCs one with iTunes and one without.
On my first pc (vista) I find I have to sync iTunes before Windows Explorer will display my photos.

I have a new PC and I don't want to put iTunes on it, however if I plug my iPad straight into the PC I don't see any photos -can I see my photos with out installing iTunes on the second PC?

The new pc is windows 7, and it's an iPad 3. I'm ultimately aiming to import them into Lightroom, but if explorer can't see them, then Lightroom never will!

Ok scratch that, solved, but here's the answer incase anyone else hits this...

Basically take a photo with the iPad.. Then it shows up all the photos you have in explorer (I.e. for me, all my RAW files imported with the CCK).

Found off the apple forum...
