Contacts between iphone and ipad question.

Currently i back up my entire iPad and have the contacts selected to iCloud. I don't back up my iPhone at all to either iCloud or iTunes, however I have "documents and data" selected on my iPhones iCloud settings. Now, when I look for contacts in my iPads contacts app, it gives me the choices- iPad; Al on iPad. iCloud; all, iPad, iPhone. If I start to back up my iPhone to iCloud, will this show up here? Also I don't want to mix my iPad and iPhone contacts together.

I guess what I'm trying to do is be able to view each devises contacts on either device without combining them in one giant contacts list.
