Contacts lost! Need some help!

Hi y'all. I am new to Apple. I have just finished listing all my contacts info which took forever. Then...bam...they
were all gone - disappeared. What the heck did I do? Everything was finally entered and I lost it all. Is it just
somewhere inside that I don't know where or do I have to enter them all again? This is very discouraging. Can anyone help me?
