Copying all my music from laptop-how?

Hi, when I tried to copy all my music from laptop onto ipad2 it only copied over the music purchased from iTunes. I have loads of music in my iTunes library that I had copied manually from cd's I had bought from shops. These have not been copied onto my iPad. How do I do this? Thanks
