On your iPhone under the setting Messages, Text Message forwarding ..., have you got your iPad switched on?

No, it wasn't, so slid it to activate then asked friend to mssg me and yes, ping/ping/ping all three. Mind you, tonight whilst watching tv, what's the betting my wife might have something to say, ha ha. but thanks anyway.

I guess it does happen ipad wont do anything unless its turned on.

Huh. The iPad has gone silent again when messages come in. So looked at iPhone>settings>messages and the green is still on to allow, oh, just done it.

Because SMS messages have to go to the phone first, then be routed back through Apple's servers to reach the iPad, there may be significant delays. Sometimes it seems to be almost instantanious. Others, not so much.
