data usage on an ipad

this question is in regards to a wifi only ipad,,,NOT 3G..

is there a way to find out the data usage of a wifi ipad? reason i ask is i'm toying with the idea of getting a 3g ipad on a month to month plan, and it would be helpful if i knew whether it's worthwhile. if such info is not available on the wifi ipad, is there an app that does this? free preferably
