The New Yorker News Desk features a stunning picture today of the cover of the June 13 & 20 issue of The New Yorker, which was drawn by artist David Hockney on his iPad. Hockney has already drawn two previous New Yorker covers on his iPhone, but has now enthusiastically turned to creating art primarily on his iPad, as he tells The New Yorker he finds it “especially good for luminous subjects or for things like the difference between ceramic and wood or a glass tea cup next to a ceramic mug. Anyway, it’s my sketchbook at the moment.â€

Hockney is currently getting ready for his 2012 exhibit at London’s Royal Academy, which will showcase around 70 of his iPad drawings, depicting “winter slowly turning into spring.â€

The New Yorker reports that Hockney has already had two gallery exhibitions so far of his iPad drawings in 2011, with the most recent one, “Me Draw on iPadâ€, currently showing in Humlebaek, Denmark until the end of August . You can click on the link below to see a slide show of some of Hockney’s other iPad drawings.
