Are the controls any good? Have been thinking of getting it for 59 Pence here in the UK but being used to playing FPS on the xbox am worried the game may be difficult to play on the iPad...any thoughts?

Yes, controls are easy.. U might have to reach on and tap in doors to open them, but you get used to it..

Left side thumb on the character will move him forward,left,right and back, double tap turns him around 180. right side gives you a 360 control, tapping and tapping again raises and fires your gun, right thumb swipe up slices with the plasma cutter...

well worth the money.. I've been playing N.o.v.a 1 & 2 for months and it's in the same class...
