I'm new on here, and I was thinking about getting an ipad later this year. My problem is whether to get an ipad 1 or an ipad 2. Is there really such a big difference?
Thanks

Hi there and welcome.

iPad 2 has twice as much RAM as the original iPad and it makes a massive difference.......so if you can afford it, go for the 2. You also get a camera with the iPad 2.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, etc. and iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the forum rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store and a great tutorial/guide for using the IPF App here http://www.ipadforums.net/new-membe...sistance/107524-ipad-forums-app-tutorial.html

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://help.apple.com/ipad/6/ and here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for iOS 4, 5, 6, etc.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/ and for iPhone users, come and join in the discussion over at http://www.iphoneforums.net

What Gabriel said! Added to that, iOS is no longer updated for the original iPad so you will find that some apps will not work. People who already had the app can still use it but anything that requires iOS 6 or later won't be available to you. To my mind, this will make your first iPad an unsatisfactory experience. The iPad 2 is still a current model and, although it is lacking features like Siri, it still runs the latest version of iOS.

Welcome aboard!

I agree with the above - if you are able to spend the money on the newer iPad, I would choose that route as you get the most current and it will be able to be updated for several updates to come instead of being outdated...good luck!

I wouldn't buy an iPad 1 or 2 now.

My husband and I gave away our iPad 1s because they were crashing more often and we figured the recipients could eke out some use still. (A free iPad is better than no iPad, but why spend money on old tech that's on the waning end of life cycle?)

My iPad 2 also is crashing and freezing more often as it ages. I have an iPad 4, so I can see the differences.
