Apple has always been a "forward thinking" company as well. They are almost always the first to drop old technology for new. Although they continue to support older OS's for a time, they don't have the enormous baggage of their main competitor when it comes to maintaining multiple OS's for extended periods of time. Although it ruffles Apple patron's feathers from time-to-time that paradigm has served them very well.
I'm certain that the JB angle factors into their decisions, but I'd guess it's more a matter of trying to avoid the time/cost associated with extended support for outdated (and "unauthorized") software.
It all speaks to Apple's desire for the best user experience possible, even though right now there are a number of folks experiencing some issues with the latest upgrade. That said, they pushed over 25,000,000 (yes, million!) iOS 5 upgrades out the door just last weekend alone. That there weren't more issues is pretty amazing by most any measurement IMHO!
Straying OT now. Back to our regularly scheduled program...
