Does teamviewer supply a secure connection?

IM currently using teamviewer successfully for my remote administration. Does any one know if if sets up a secure connection similar to a VPN? I've been looking at VPN services and would rather not set one up on my iPad . My thinking here would be to simply connect to a secure computer using teamviewer and conduct my business through that system (vs. straight through my iPad).

I guess my question is basically this: does teamviewer basically give my the security I'm looking for without setting up a VPN service?
