Currently it is illegal to make copies without consent of the copy write holder, i think i read early 2011 there is legislation in mind to change this position and bring the UK in line with Europe, where copies for personal use - as long as you keep ownership of the original, becomes legal.

I'm pretty certain that no one is going to be prosecuted for copying for personal use, stick those copies on the web and it's a whole different ball game.

I have noticed that when buying blu rays recently they often come with a digital copy for watching on computers, iPads, etc.
