Email Attachment Photos

I used to be able to save email attached photos to my camera roll for editing in IPhoto. As of a few hours hen I recently forwarded photos from my camera to my email for download onto my Ipad2 I found out "save to camera roll" does not pop up as an option. Does anyone know how I fix this? I've made no changes or updates besides updating to IOS6

The file names appear to be missing their file type suffix (.jpg, .png, .tif, .gif, etc.) Without the suffix the iPad doesn't know they are pictures and won't offer the choice to save them to the camera roll.

I'm surprised it says it will print them.
