Emoji for Pages docs

Hi, very new to iPad and am making my way around apps etc. I have just installed Emoji and would like to use it in Pages but when I change the keyboard and type/choose an emoticon it doesn't come up, does that mean they are not supported in Pages?

Yes, you are right Lesley. I had never noticed before, but Pages does not show emoji characters. I've just tried it and I get blanks.

I'm guessing you tried to copy them, that's what I was gonna suggest! 

Thanks guys, I just wanted to confirm that was the case and I wasn't doing something wrong. A bit of a disappointment, I will try to copy and paste but that is a bit of a chore.
