Face time

Can someone explain to me how it is I can call someone using face time with my iPad 2 (16gb wifi) This may be a stupid question, but I'm not sure how it works.

VoIP- voice over Internet protocol.
Same deal as Skype.

Yep, should be compatible, as long as the iPad user you're calling has the same things set up. There are other programs, of course (google internet phone if you're curious) but Skype is the most popular and well-integrated.

its done through email connection that apple attaches it like a number to a facetime device.
