Facebook update error??

Tried to update to latest, it ran like it was okay but it put a greyed out Facebook on the desk top and left the orig. alone. I tried to delete the greyed out one by pressing and holding the icon til it jiggled and had an "x" on it;but no "x" appeared so I couldn't delete the greyed out icon. How to get rid of it ?

Problem solved completely!!! took iPad to my hd and did a backup,restore. Greyed out icon is gone and all works well.
