Facetime and imessage

Tried to activate both iMessage and FaceTime by using my apple id but it doesn't work. Keeps telling me "unable to verify email address". Is it the email address you use after you use make a purchase? Or... Do I need to create another email address?

Hi there...when you to iMessage check to see which email you have assigned to receive/send emails. If i rememeber correctly it will default to your apple Id at first, but you can change it to another email as you wish.

Just press the current email already showing and you can add a new one with the prompts.
