A shortwave radio station, known as The Buzzer, broadcasts a short, monotonous buzz tone, very rarely interrupted by voice transmissions in Russian. It's active since the late 1970s or early 1980s, and the origins are traced to Russia.
Two other stations follow a similar format: The Pip and The Squeaky Wheel.

Beer was prohibited in Iceland from 1st January 1915 till 1st March 1989. However, the restriction applied to only "strong beer", with an alcohol content of 2.25% or more from 1935. This is the reason why many Icelanders celebrate 1st March as Beer Day!
 
A deadline was originally a line drawn on U.S. Civil war prison camps which marked the point beyond which a prisoner would be shot dead.
 
Author Ian McEwan helped his son with an A-level essay about one of his novels, Enduring Love. His son's teacher disagreed with his interpretation of the novel. So the boy got a very low mark.

Dubai Airport's terminal 3 is the second largest building in the world by floor space (1,713,000 sq. m) and the largest airport terminal in the world.

The largest building in terms of floor space is the New Century Global Center in China. (1,760,000 sq. m.)

For centuries, the Irish buried barrels of butter in peat bogs to preserve it and give it extra flavor.
