First time use

My name is Allan and I have just bought a new iPad 3. I know a little about windows computers and am a member of the local senior net group in Auckland, new zealand. I have an old power pc Mac that I play around with sometimes but it is no good for my iPad.

I need a lot of help with this new tablet. It is certainly not the same as a pc or a Mac.

I have a laptop running windows 7 which is a big enough mystery so I hope I am not taking on too much.

A technician told me a while ago that I would not need iTunes to download my music from my pc and that I would be able to use the cloud or dropbox. Is this right?

Hi there Allan and welcome.

Whilst there are probably ways to download music without iTunes on your PC, if you have iTunes on your PC then you can share the music in it with your iPad without a physical connection. So for me having iTunes is a must because despite all the negative comments, it just works.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. Thank you for all your information. That link for creating posts is the one I needed. I could not find where to post a question but I think it was because I was not going to a particular thread. It takes a while but I will learn. I'll be back.
