Getting started with Programming iPad

Good afternoon,

I am trying to start programming for iPad. To create a few educational things for my children.

I hav just downloaded xCode onto my parents Mac computer. But when I tried to open it, I received a message, saying that it was not openable on this architecture. Could someone point out to me what I have done wrong?

Thanks

It is likely that your parent's Mac is too old to run a new enough version of OS X.

Click on the Apple icon in the menu bar and choose About This Mac. You can find the basic processor and year info needed to look up your compatibility with different versions of OSX.

I agree, i looks like OS X is too old.
Make sure you have plenty of memory too or you will grow tired of the colorful rotating ball real quick :)
