Over two and a half months have gone by since Google announced that it would be launching a service to compete with Twitch. On Wednesday, Google's YouTube Gaming went live for the United States and United Kingdom.

YouTube Gaming works very similar to YouTube, where folks can subscribe, like and chat about the current content that is playing. What's different is that the new service is focused on live-streaming gameplay, walkthroughs, and how-tos related to gaming.

Google previously stated, "This summer, we’ll launch YouTube Gaming, a brand new app and website to keep you connected to the games, players, and culture that matter to you, with videos, live streams, and the biggest community of gamers on the web—all in one place."

Google's new service officially supports around 25,000 games. YouTube Gaming also has dedicated channels for game developers and YouTube Creators.

While Twitch has over one hundred million viewers every month and more than 1.5 million streamers, it's going to take some time for YouTube Gaming to catch up. However, Google is the bigger fish in the picture, so it will be interesting to see how this battle will go down.

YouTube Gaming is now available on the iTunes App Store.
