What's new

Have you pre ordered your Ipad 2?

The store can do what they want, but Apple can punish them by withholding future stock.

That happens sometimes with things like video game releases--retailer breaks street date and sells early, publisher finds out and withholds launch stock of next big game to punish them (since that's when the most copies are sold--they have none and their competitors profit).

Anyway, I'm not willing to hassle with asking around etc. I'll probably just order from Apple.com or try my luck after work on Friday and see if they have some left like they did after the iPad 1 launch lines died down. It's not some necessity that I have to have right away.

Good job...you all did your research. Obviously I could not have gotten an apple education discount on an iPad. Thats a my bad on that one. I got $100 off when I went back an bought an iMac for my parents the next day. Sorry for the confusion. Anyways to ajneuman, jhood2323, and col.bris...which ever one of you said that I cant until Friday you are wrong Sir, assuming your all gentlemen like myself. Just under the right circumstances we have an authorized campus store that just can just do whatever the hell they want I guess. It looks like me and Hasty will be enjoying our iPad's while you guys or gals are struggling to enter your 16 digit credit/debit card # on apples website, which you can do here... "http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad/start/select?mco=MjEzNTIwNzE".......sorry for the inconvenience. My store is in Texas and I guess we just have it made here. Ive talked to a lot of people and they are able to do the same thing I did. Just ask around and dont assume that you have to wait until the 11th. GOD Bless America!

I'm not judging or telling you that you are wrong, I'd just like to know so I could pre-order as well. I was sent an email from an authorized reseller that advertised pre-order but, when I called they were told by Apple they couldn't take them. Apple likes to completely control the sale of their products so, it's a surprise to everyone here that you can pre-order yours.

Reply ajneuman

I see what you mean. Well I do find it odd that not many other people have been able to put money down. One reply earlier stated that they would loose future shipments because they might have violated policy. To me I think that it would be the store policy to decide how they want to sell their products. They are in no way totally controlled by corporate so they are probably not told what to do other than the obvious that you cant sell them until March 11th. I was some how shocked that I was able to pre order mine, and put the full payment on it a couple of days after it was announced. I could be wrong but when I asked if they were getting any on the 11th they said yes. Then I asked if there were taking reservations or pre orders they said yes. They told me that as soon as they got the product number that I could even pay for it ahead of time for a quick in and out on launch day or wait and pay for it then. In a world of rules and regulations maybe they should have waited until they got some in but they're just trying to speed things up a bit and help me and others out. This will be my first iPad, but I heard that last year they tracked the shipment statement and it arrived at a local fed-ex facility and staid there for 3 days, then on launch day they dropped it off. Same thing will happen here for this iPad I assume. I guess I just got lucky. Its not like I have it now I still have to wait until Friday, I guess it gets all the hassle out of things knowing I have it paid for and all I got to do is pick it up. And I'm pretty sure that I don't have to wait until 5 because I think its whatever that store wants to do. Lucky for me I stay in an apartment I block from my campus and the store is on the other side of the parking garage across the street. It takes me maybe 2-3 minutes at the most to walk back to my place and go up the elevator to the fourth floor and sit down from first leaving the store so I probably have the most convenient way of a true customer getting an iPad on Friday. Sorry that they said no to taking pre orders at your place.

I am pretty sure impatience is not a virtue

I will simply wait until the day after tomorrow and place my order with Apple, confident in the knowledge that they will ship it to me very expediently just as they have with my iPad1, MacBook Pro, iPhones, and iPods. Their system works quite well.

No worries and I'll while away my time with what I already have.

Yeah they say "fast free shipping" which I take to mean that they'll give you 2 day shipping for free, so online orders should arrive on Tuesday I'd guess.

Although I live in Germany and therefor have to wait until the 25th, I already placed a pre-order with my local Apple shop. In addition a friend of mine is working in the IT department of the local university and he is trying to get one for me through his Ed-Shop.

Apple is strict i doubt that you will be able to pick it up before 5 pm as yes Apple controls the delivery time.

I guess we will have to wait and see. I don't have class' on Friday so I'm going to head over there at 11 and see if I can pick it up. Ill post pictures too!

I bought my iPad last May on the first day that the 3g model launched. It was the same deal, not available until 5pm on a Friday. I arrived at the Apple Store at about 3:30 and there was already a line (not too long) and the doors of the Store didn't open until exactly 5pm. No one gets in early unless they're not buying an iPad.

I wish I could pre-order online but I'm contemplating getting up at 3am on Friday to put my online order in :) It is a bit of a no-brainer for me to order online though as I get a corporate discount and it may be tax free as well? The total savings will be around $50.

It won't be tax free unless there's no Apple store in your state. Your location is DC metro so I'm sure you have one in your area!
