Hello from a Systems Engineer

Hello forum!

I just registered on this forum to learn more about the iPad concept. I am a systems engineer living in the Netherlands. I'm a Mac user (2 macbooks and a Mac Pro) and I am exploring possibilities to use the iPad for my work. I'll post my first questions in the "iPad at work" sub forum.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, etc. and iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the forum rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://help.apple.com/ipad/6/ and here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for iOS 4, 5, 6, etc.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I checked out the topics and the rules, thanks for that. I must admit I didn't read all 108 pages full of tips & tricks, I might do so after I get an iPad. At this time I have some questions to be able to decide if I'll get one at all. Here are my questions:

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the forums. I've just been reading your interesting discussion about requirements for a paperless office.

I'm not a tech wizard by any means, more of an enthusiast who is not afraid of IT and gadgets :)

You were looking for apps to combine pictures text and hand written or drawn elements. I haven't found anything which performs all 3 on an iPad. I have used whiteboards etc at work for presentations. Anyway, you may wish to check out certain programmes in the store....
. Pages is a good word processor and you can I sent and overlap images, screen shots and shapes from the inbuilt library.
. A+signature is good for adding text, shapes and hand drawn lines, wording etc to images. You can tinker with a free version of the programme. On a try before you buy basis.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your welcome and I'll check out the apps you mentioned. I've heard good things about notesplus. I'll go and check that out too. Finally, some say the next gen iPad might come as a stylused version. So maybe I should at least wait until it is announced in march.

cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

The new generation of iPad will need some special features to help keep the brand ahead of the game. Other manufacturers' tablets are becoming more competitive and one, in particular, has some interesting accessories.

I'll be interested in seeing how you get on with notesplus.

Cheers

Richard
