Home button working intermittently? Common issue?

My ipad2 Home Button is starting to act up. I'm very frequently having to press it 2 and 3 times to get it to work. Recently it stopped working and I thought it was a misbehaving app (TuneInRadio app) as I had to jump through hoops to get out of the app, but since then I have rebooted twice and starting to experience the intermittent responsiveness of it. iPad sees light use so button should not be wore out. I 'm having to push far more firmly, and often several times.
