How do I delete specific items from history list

Hi- I have just joined! I received an iPad for birthday in November. am a bit older! So not brought up with computers. Remember buying husband an Acorn electron when we just married! One of the very 1st! So that dates me. Think he still has it!
Anyway i want to know how to delete specific items from history list. I got the list up and wanting to try it out, I clicked on January 1st. I thought I would just be deleting that day..... I deleted entire history, which I had NOT wanted to do. So how do I delete a specific item?

I'm sorry, but there is no way to clear individual history items in Safari. It is all or nothing.
