How Do I Print From iPad to Printer?

nateccnn said:
You know...I don't know. I do know it has to be shared by the PC it is connected to. If you can access it from the PC via WiFi and then share it I bet it would work.

Nate

I have my ipad connected to my wireless printer via my home network and it works fine

Can ipad connect to non-wireless .i.e usb printer to print? Any model? Or ipad only can print using wifi?

That is only possible with 3rd party apps.

With Print'n'share, you should be able to hook up the printer directly to the iPad via USB through the camera connection kit and print.

Or so did the app description make me assume. I can't actually get it to work, when the printer is connected to the iPad via USB. The app only searches for Wifi printers. Makes me wonder what they mean by you can print via Wifi/Bluetooth/USB.

I think the way it works is that your printer is connected direct to the hub/router which is then set up through your hime network which then you can connect too with your ipad

It is my understanding - although I have Print Central - that you can print either directly to a printer by WiFi or indirectly via the Developer's additional free app for your PC to a USB or Bluetooth printer connected to your PC. i.e. the PC needs to be switched on too and the iPad then communicates with your PC and the app in the PC transfers that printing to the printer attached to your PC. For sure, that's the way it works with Print Central.

Sorry for lack of details... I'm using a MacBook Pro and Ipad2 and printopia trial version worked like a charm.

1. Has anyone sucessfully used a wifi adaptor to turn a usb printer into a wifi printer that ipad can connect to?
2. Apple should produce a mini portable usb printer, 'iprint', for iphone & ipad.
These 2 products would sell as well as iphone & ipad...

I think I have this figured out, but I have thought that before.
I have an Epson Artisan 50 series printer that works via USB with my Windows XP netbook and my wife's MacBook Pro. I would like to buy an Airport Express and connect the printer to it, then setup the computers to print to it wirelessly. I installed Print n Share apps on my laptop and computers. So I gather from this thread that I will be able to print from the iPad, using Print n Share apps, via the computer, to the Epson printer that is attached to the USB port of the Airport Express. My iPad is on the latest update 4.3.2.
So, am I thinking right, this is possible?

Thanks in advanced,
crappa

I think that is correct! I currently have an Epson wireless printer however i connect through my home network, not directly to the printer?

Thanks Barlowbrian. This is for my cabin. I will try this hopefully next week.

Webwrangler, I will be connecting through the XP Netbook 90% of the time. Thanks for the Mac tip.

I use a an MBP hooked up wirelessly to my printer through an Airport extreme. By installing Printopia On the MBP I can now print wieelessly from my Ipad, as long as they are all on the same wireless network

OK so I bought the Air Port Express today. It works fine with the iPad playing music through the stereo. I can also connect to my XP Netbook through DocsToGo app, so I know the communication is there. When I look in the Airport Utilities, I see the printer there. When I try to add the printer in the XP Netbook, it is not there.

EDIT: I just hooked the printer up directly (with the USB cord) to the XP Netbook, and using Print n Share, I was able to print to the printer from the iPad. Just can't get the add printer wizard to find the printer when it is hooked up to the Airport. One other thing I noticed, when browsing for the printer in the add printer wizard, the Netbook finds my home network, which is about 75 miles away, so I think that is wrong. It does not find the network it is actually connected to. This is on wireless.

Any hints to what I'm doing wrong?

OK I finally figured this out and have it working. I can print now from the iPad to the printer plugged into the Airport Express via the XP Netbook.

The printer has to be installed via the Bonjour application, I did not know that was what it was for. Hope this helps others who got stuck like me. Don't use the windows add a printer window.

Cigar time :)

Spoke too soon, all I can do is access this network, can't get on any other network now.
Be careful when doing this operation, things can go wrong.
