I paid $600US + tax for my iPad. I can't afford to be switching out hardware that fast. Anything new (whether it be Android or iPad2) would have to be an order of magnitude better for me to consider upgrading after less than a year.

I'm not up much with the technical jargon but the iPad wins over the tab when it comes to screen and movies etc just by a whisker.

I think you mixed up there. The SGT plays mkv and avi files natively and in HD, while the ipad needs everything converted to m4v or whatever like we are in the 90's all over again. Also the SGT has a higher pixel density and a widescreen resolution, all much better for video playback. The ipad wins on zero fronts related to video. Web browsing on the other hand the iPad will be much better at due to the 4:3 screen ratio.

Great, glad to see you can tell them that their OPINION on two devices they own are incorrect. As much as you slam the iPad, why exactly do you come on here? Reading your posts over the past several days, most every one seems to be an attack on the iPad. There are plenty of Android forums to play on. Perhaps your time would be better spent there.

Actually, I just went back and looked at all of your posts here. EASILY 3/4 of them are slamming the iPad and Apple. Which again begs my question above. If they are so terrible, why are you here? To educate us, the poor little Apple sheep?

I am here because I own an iPad. I love it. I hate Apple and how they operate. I hate iOS and its RIDICULOUS limitations. That pretty much sums up my opinions on those issues. I own the device, so I think I am allowed to point out the needless shortcomings it has that only exist because Apple feels like maintaining complete control over the user experience and squeezing every last cent of money out of the consumer by making using any other method for media consumption other than their iTunes scam painful and annoying.

Also, I am not trying to say that his opinion is wrong. If he thinks the iPad is better for video, so be it. I strongly disagree and I believe I have valid reasons to feel the way I do. There is not one reason the iPad would be better for video than the SGT.

Bingo. That is exactly my thought on the matter as well. As much as my first generation iPad cost, I will be using it until I either completely outgrow it (not likely) or it stops working. These devices cost way too much money for me to simply upgrade every time a fractional upgrade comes along. That doesn't even take into account the amount of money I have invested in apps and accessories for the device I currently have.

Pointing them out once and leaving well enough alone and repeatedly beating a dead horse with your comments over and over are two different things. We know how ya feel, we got it the first time. So come off it, k?

Why wouldn't you be able to leave it on standby for instant on? The newer computers get, the better the standby feature gets. My core i5 Windows 7 systems goes from full standby (you wouldn't even know it is powered on) to ready for use in less time than it takes me to sit in my chair. In standby mode the power use is almost zero. There is no reason a tablet based system with a modern OS cannot achieve the same thing.

Well, if a full OS on a tablet can do that, then yeah, no argument!
I have a Windows 7 netbook tablet and it most definitely cannot be left on standby. Also have a hacked PanDigital Novel in the family, runs Android, and its intended primary function is an e-reader, but it most definitely too CANNOT be left on standby, which you would think it should. I did a test on it, and it wouldn't turn on the next day-drained right down. I was surprised at how fast.

My MBP loses 2-3% every 12 hours in standby mode (just close the lid) and starts back up instantly. You have a hacked PanDigital Novel which, to say the least, is a terrible device, so I'm not surprised it loses excessive battery life in standby mode.

Interesting-good standby mode for MBP. As for the Novel, all things considered, no, it most certainly is no iPad rival, but it is not intended to be. It's really not intended to rival a "true" Android tablet. But I don't think it is terrible either. If turned off, it retains a charge for a while, and battery drain during reading doesn't seem horrible. The web browser works fine. I didn't try it thinking it from a mindset that it was going to replace the iPad at all. But because it does run Android and is an e-reader, I just was surprised that it has no provision to be left on standby.
Guess this is another issue pertaining to the notion that Android is offered on multiple devices, hence one can't make a blanket statement about the OS. And I don't. In fact, I have no issue with Android-got a taste for it seeing it in the Novel, and it is definitely interesting, and though I won't be buying, the upcoming tabs for sure look cool, and I will be more than interested to see and read about them. But leads to the other point that iOS only runs in Apple branded devices which preserves stability too, perhaps some might say, at the price of some expansion.
All I know is, iPad does the trick for me.

some of the new tablets being announced ARE an order of magnitude better than the current iPad. Also, unless Apple seriously beefs up the specs of the iPad 2 hardware, the new Android tablets are going to be an order of magnitude better than the iPad2 as well.

I can't wait for March/April which seems to be the timescale most manufacturers are shooting for.

The Toshiba one I mentioned a couple pages back, the Asus Slider, and pretty much any one that gets announced with a Tegra 2 and higher screen resolution than the iPad. All of those will be significantly better than the current iPad. But that is expected, the iPad is year old hardware. Now if the iPad 2 doesn't up its specs to match, that is the real problem.

The reason Android had trouble with games is because they weren't programmed correctly for games, now with 2.3 and Honeycomb, along with the new processors and more RAM, they will laugh at the games like Infinity Blade that runs with some slowdown and dropped frames on iPad. Also multitasking will be much quicker and actual REAL multitasking.

Yeah, it looks pretty. However...I still have reservations about it being the be all end all for tablets /shrug.

I will probably buy one at some point, but the ipod will be purchased before the android tablet. I already have an android phone. Everything I want from android right Noe, I can do on my phone.

That's like people in the old days saying "well I can get to town by riding my horse instead buying that automobile contraption, why would I want to go to other towns when everything I need is here?"

As with any technological advancements, you don't even realize what you "needed" until you get a something new with features you never even thought you would want.

So yes, your Android phone does everything you want it to, and your iPad does everything you need it to as well. But get one of these new Android 3.0 tablets, and then a few months later try going back to just using your phone or iPad, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Personal example: I've owned Windows based laptops for years, now that I own a MacBook Pro, I could never go back to a Windows laptop due to one simple feature that I never thought I would need: Swipe gestures on the touchpad. I used my old laptop the other day just to test out simple web browsing, I hated it so much because of the lack of touch-swipe gestures.

Im not going to get into another long argument. Its pointless. I have both windows and macbook laptops and desktops and both have their advantages and disadvantages. As does the ipod vs everything else because we can't wave around our e-pen's enough argument

First look video of the Android 3.0 interface.

This is what iOS could be if Apple would allow a little customization. So unless Apple announces iOS 5 and it's significantly different than iOS 4, Android 3.0 is going to make iOS look like a kid's toy.

Also, this is just normal Android 3.0, just wait till app developers like the people who make Launcher Pro get their hands on it, will look even better, be faster, and more functional!
