What's new

How many opted for Applecare for their new iPad 2.

I got the $20/mo from the second to last sentence in your post that I quoted.

You are correct that I am selling both my Mac and it's Apple Care to the buyer. If I were the buyer, I personally feel more confident in purchasing a preowned computer that still had warranty and tech support. In this case, the buyer is getting double the parts/labor/replacement and 8x the tech support, by having Apple Care attached.

I get peace of mind, and so does the buyer, for no more cost to me or the buyer during their ownership. Seems that both I and the buyer come out ahead this way.

The $20 was the difference between the $300 and the $279 I thought the apple care was. I do think you're on to something. In the end you don't pay much more than I do but you give the new user 2 years of warranty which makes for an easier sell. I think I'll do it your way from now on since it actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info 

I bought my iPad 2 from Sam's Club last week. I have 30 days to decide if I want to get the extended warranty. I think it's 3 years for about $80.

Believe it or not, this is my first Apple product. So my question is - is it really worth getting the warranty? I'll be taking the iPad on business travel but I don't think it will be getting banged around.

Opinions?

I've had my iPad2 for about a week now and haven't gotten AppleCare yet. I'm actually thinking about Squaretrade, since it covers things AppleCare doesn't.

Thoughts?

SquareTrade the way to go. Had on first iPad, MBP, and family member iPhones. Warranty plus breakage coverage, can't beat it.

Never buy extended warranties of any type for anything. The majority of problems occur right out of the box, and accidents are just that, and most people will not experience either. It's like going to a casino, a few people benefit, but the casino usually wins.

Ditto. But I definitely insure my big ticket items. For the iPad, Worth Ave Groups is the way to go. For about $60-$70 year, they will ensure 64GB 3G model against just about every imaginable type of damage, including submersion, tornado, flood, fire, spills, etc., dropping and even insure against THEFT. $50 flat deductible.

I never buy the insurance, and as of now I have never needed it. I really think it is more of a personal preference based on your risk tolerance.

I upgraded to the IPad 2 after 10 months, so my iPad 1 was still under factory warranty when I sold it. You can buy Apple Care any time during the first year of ownership. I'll wait to see if the iPad 3 will be worth buying, if not, I'll buy Apple Care for my iPad 2 in the 12th month of the original warranty. Why hurry?

Really well sorry i do not agree I have been a Apple reseller for 20 years with main hardware it is recommended because screens can fail drives can fail etc sure some things fail in first year but more than 60 % fail after. That is not 60% of purchases it is 60% of computers that fail With ipads there are no moving parts only the battery is at risk so frankly not a big deal with warranty if you do buy you will find that resale value will be higher It is recommended to purchase extended warranty with laptops As cost of repairs are high. Yes it is a gamble but if the price is small it is worth it

Facts prove you wrong. No company selling extended warranties lose money selling them. That is a fact. If they are making money, the consumer is losing it.
Yes Its recommended by companies selling extended warranties that you buy them...why would it not be?
If it makes you feel secure purchasing one that's up to the individual, but in all my years purchasing electronics, and considering I'm probably older than 90 percent of the people here, that is a long time, I have never been in a situation where buying one would have saved me money in the long term. In fact, the money I have saved by not buying them throughout my life would pay for several very nice vacations. :)
