How much punishment can a screen take?

If I got some sandpaper and rubbed it all over my screen I would obviously scratch it and, I guess, remove the oleophobic film that we always hear about.

But assuming you could still make out what the screen was displaying, would it still work as a touch screen? How deep is the touch goodness?

I'll let you draw your own conclusions about the thickness, but the glass is it's own separate layer. You would definitely know when you got to the delicate active part of the screen.
