How to get IOS 6 on ipad 1?

I have the first generation iPad and it would never update. It would always say "The apps on this device cannot be recognized" and would cancel the update. So it had never been update until yesterday, when it finally went through with the update. I wanted to update it because when some of my apps had updates my iPad couldn't download it, as they were for further updated iPads. Now, however, I don't have IOS 6, and still can't update an app that I need to use for work. Is it possible to get IOS 6 on a first gen iPad?

Unfortunately, no, you can't put iOS 6 on an iPad1. The highest version number that will load on that first generation iPad is iOS 5.1.1.
