HOW TO - Save your SHSH Blobs with TinyUmbrella

No, you do not have to save SHSH blobs before jail breaking your iPad. They are two separate processes.

While you still want to get Tiny Umbrella to run properly on [one of] your computer, when you jail break, your SHSH blob will be saved to Cydia's servers once you first go to Cydia. So, it will be saved for you that way.

SBSettings Tiny Umbrella to run on your computer is for later - should you ever want to (1) save your SHSH blobs locally or (2) use the blobs to restore your iPad. But, as iOS 5.1.1 is the only jail breakable version right now (and Apple is still signing it, anyway), you have time to figure out why Tiny Umbrella won't work.

So, long story a bit longer - go ahead and jail break your iPad. Not getting Tiny Umbrella to run will not interfere with that process.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Yes that is correct as this is the latest OS at the moment and what your iPad is on.

Look in Settings - General - About and you will see it listed for Version. Enjoy!

I right clicked TU,select it to run it administrator, but TU says 'TU must be run in administrator mode'Whats happening?

Most likely this is to do with the setup of your PC. Running Vista maybe? (notoriously useless when it comes to this stuff). Are you sure you are logged on as a user which has access to full admin privileges on the PC?

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit and I'm the only user on the computer. And i'm also the admin in the computer. So whats happening?

Ok I am new to the ipad scene. I have looked everywhere for an answer but find dead ends, probably because I dont understand the terminology enough.

I am trying to get my blobs and seem to be failing at doing so. I have read if you have 5.1.1 you can still get your blobs

I have a Ipad 2 Wifi, 2,4 with IOS 5.1.1(9B206). I have already jailbroke it. I look in Cydia and it shows I have SHSH IOS 6.0.1. I am trying to get blobs for 5.1.1.

TU 6.0.0.1 and I get error

So if I am understanding this correctly, normally you can back up blobs from IOS 5.1.1 but not my version or is this a firmware thing?

Thanks in advanced, I am stuck because I dont want to do anything to the ipad until I get a 5.1.1 shsh blobs.

Unfortunately, you can no longer get iOS 5.1.1 blobs. Apple closed that window back at the end of September. In fact, Apple has closed the window for iOS 6.0 as of two days ago. Without the blobs being signed by Apple, there is no way to get them now. Sorry.

Dear fellows,

My status:

IPad 3 - 16GB wifi /4G - iOS 5.1.1
Jailbroken once, then attempted unsuccessful reboot, unsuccessful restore because while inserting the sim, guy from whose shop I bought it just rebooted it, which made the apple logo appear which went off only after the battery drained out. But once my iPad came to life, Cydia, safari and mail apps were not working and are still so.now I want to reinstall my iOS 5.1.1. My shah b
Obs might have save by Cydia but Cydia is not functional now. I also don't know exactly what my iPad's status is right now, I mean jailbroken or unjailbroken, because Cydia app is still there on my home screen. My question is

can I try a reinstall of ios5.1.1 considering that Tiny Umbrella would fetch shush blobs from Cydia somehow for me!!

My current status -

iPad 2 running 5.0.1. Jailbroken since January 2012. Available SHSH blobs - 5.0.1, 5.1, 5.1.1, 6.0.1. I know jailbreaking iPad 2 running 6.x or higher is not available yet. If I upgrade to 6, would I be able to downgrade back to 5.0.1 and then jailbreak or am I stuck at 6? Are there instructions on backing up my Cydia apps and tweaks?

No, unfortunately, if you upgrade to iOS 6 on that iPad2, you will not be able to go back down to any version of iOS 5. That's because, while the iPad2 is the only iPad that can be downgraded to iOS 5, you need BOTH the blobs for [any version of] iOS 4.x AND the iOS 5 version to which you want to downgrade. As you don't have those 4.x blobs - you'll be stuck on iOS 6.

As far as saving your Cydia tweaks, I use the Cydia tweak PKGBackup. It works well for Cydia tweaks (as well as iTunes does for App Store apps). However, Cydia backup tweaks work best if you are staying within versions of iOS (e.g. 5.0.1 and 5.1.1). They don't work as well in moving between major releases (e.g. 5.1.1 to iOS 6.x). In the latter case, it's best to just have a list of tweaks and re-install them one at a time. It also helps in that yu can make sure the tweaks work on the newer iOS.

Hope some of this is of use.

Just completed JB , great instructions! Also did the blob thing with TU and ended up with ipad 4 6.1.2 (10b146) under saves SHSHs and would like to know if this is the expected result I should find.
