How to transfer books to PC

[ipad troubles]

So I've purchased quite a few books for my iPad2 but not through the iBookstore. They are all the .ePub format and read great on the iPad but for some reason won't tansfer to my PC in itunes. Although iOS 5 is a bit far off, I've heard from a friend that when she upgraded iOS (this was a while ago) all of her purchased books were deleted from her iPad and I would hate to have that happen to me. Had they been synced in itunes that wouldnt have been a problem... any help on how to sync to these books itunes????

I'm still learning and haven't tried it but Calibre is free and works great from the pc to ipad so it might work from the ipad to pc. They have a pretty good forum for help as well.

What app are you reading them in, and how did you transfer them to the iPad?
