How to use effectively

Hi I'm new to all this!!!!!!!!!
I have an ipad and also a kindle, I would like to find out how to transfer my kindle books onto the ipad.
I think that the ipad might be more useful to travel rather than take both.
I would also like to learn more about the ipad. I just use it basically which seems such a waste.
Any suggestions!!!!!
