I accidentally just dropped my iPad and the screen cracked will apple fix it 4 free?

I've had it since Christmas and will it make a difference if I send it in or take it to the apple store?

Not likely that Apple will replace it for free if you dropped it. The warranty does not cover abuse or damage cause by negligence. They can fix it for you though, I do not know the exact price for an iPad but a replacement job on the iPhone is about $200 so it could be more than that since the iPad screen is bigger.
