I can't back out of Safari on my ipad 2

I lost my ability to minimize the web page I'm on on so I can bring up a blank page and go to another site. The link to the left of the bookmark link on the top menu bar in Safari is no longer there. It was there for a few days and now it's gone.

There is no longer a link on the top menu bar of the screen to minimize the current website.

Does any one know how to fix this issue. This never was a problem on my iPad 1.

Did you just upgrade to iOS 5? The old thumbnail pages thing is gone. You now have tabs. You can create new tab by tapping the plus sign at the top right of the screen (just under the search bar). Close the tabs by taping the x in the tab. If you close all tabs you get a blank screen.

I noticed the tabs as well. I prefer the thumbnails. I wish there was an option to choose.
