Finally got my steps built. $115 of materials and an hour of sweat. I doubt a carpenter would be impressed, but they are not too ugly, and are very sturdy.

My main goal. I had some extra re-enforcement planed with the scraps, but the steps were solid when I got done with the basic design so I didn't bother.

Graph paper and power tools, the grownup equivalent of an Erector Set (had one as a kid)



I recorded my pricing and planning in Evernote (because I could), but didn't follow them exactly during construction. I had about two weeks to rethink everything, and did not bother to draw out the changes. Mostly I just inset the boards on the back (moving the posts posts a bit in) and added an extra cross brace between the risers at the second step.

There is a food tasting and street music event in the shopping mall at Bromley this weekend. Indoors may be a good thing as temperatures are set to reach the 30s C!
