I have to correct: we do have problems in the village as well. i just heard that my aunt has to pump water out of her cellar, since a few days. I think she won't be the only one.

Well I hope that your aunt is ok, I remember from my time staying with friends in Germany, everyone had cellars and often used them as living spaces, is it the same in Austria?

Most of the houses do have cellars. Some use them as living spaces, but not my aunt.
 
I've been following the story about Johanna's aunt and the flooding problems in the area.

It's seems as if more and more communities, world-wide, are suffering floods. Perhaps it is time that we learned some lessons about how those who live in areas frequently flooded deal with the situation, and see what they do with existing and new buildings to mitigate the situation.
