My iPad 2 had the bleeding light problem which occurred in 2 places. This was not enough of a distraction to warrant my returning the iPad. Last week I dropped the iPad and it hit the rugged floor right on the corner. No obvious damage except bleeding light defect was gone and remains so. Not a trace. Just thought I'd pass it on.

I guess, though, you're not recommending this as a solution to be adopted by other Members...
