International purchases?

Is there any way at all to get an app from a store other than your 'local' one? One of the apps I'd love to get is a UK one and I'm aggrivated. I know about UK Itunes cards...would a US credit card work if I got an account with the UK store? Is there danger of Apple detecting the non-UK location and not liking it? I recall reading something about that. Can apps be loaded any other way if you jailbreak? I'm reluctant to do so, but want to find out anyway.

I live in Australia and have an American account as well as my local one. I asked a friend of mine to pick me up an American iTunes card while they were on holiday for me. I have had no problems from apple...

Hmm maybe I'll pick up one of those Visa gift cards, see if they'll take that, since I haven't a way to obtain a UK iTunes card.

That might work, or else just buy a gift card in £ from eBay or somewhere similar, all you need is the number on the card to set the account up, you don't need the physical card.
