Internet not connected?

I am trying to update my I pad but when I try all I get is that my internet is not connected....probably simple but I am stumped.. I am using a 3g connection. Please help

To update your iPad you need to have your iPad connected to iTunes on a computer. You can't update it just off of 3G.

I suspect the reason you are getting a no Internet signal is because your provider is AT&T. Their 3G coverage I think it's safe to say is not the best.

Sorry, I do have it connected to my laptop but it is a 3g connection also, sorry for the confusion

You would do a lot better if your laptop was connected on wifi or even an ethernet cord. It's a big update and will take some time.
