I'm a 64 year old semi-retired mechanical engineer. I use my iPad 2 primarily for email, Facebook, and Words with Friends, as well as general surfing. I joined this group because I need help. I upgraded to iOS6 and now my iPad is completely inoperative. The installation seemed to be going OK, there was the status bar that showed progress. I left it to install and a couple of hours later came back and it won't boot up. I have tried everything. I made sure it was charged, and pressed the on off button both for a long time and a short time. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I haven't heard of this....try a reset of your iPad
Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you may see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds, so be patient. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start.
Let us know how you go and in the meantime I've moved your thread to our Help Section where you will receive a better response.

Thank you so much for this idea. I tried it and it showed me that the battery was in the red. At least that is a start because I didn't even get this before. I will wait for the battery to fully charge and try again.

I'm wondering if the download did complete fully before the battery gave out. Did you happen to see how much charge was in the battery. They can shut down at 2%. Let us know what happens when you do have it charged.

This may have been the case, although I charge every night and when it came on there was only the last few steps for me to do for the set-up. In any event resetting it worked and I am up an running.
