iPad 1 on 3.2, trying to upgrade to 4.3.1...help?

I've been Googleing for the past day trying to figure this out.

Here's what I have:

iPad 1 with 3.2 jailbroken with Spirit last June.
iTunes 10.2.1.1
TinyUmbrella v4.30.05
Snowbreeze 2.5
PC with Vista

I failed to upgrade to 4.3.1 before 4.3.2 was released because I was out of town. Now I want to upgrade to 4.3.1 and untether jailbreak it.

I used TinyUmbrella and unchecked the first 3 boxes on the Advanced tab and saved my 4.3.1 SHSHs.

I ran iOS 4.3.1 through Snowbreeze.

I changed my hosts file from:

I then put my iPad into DFU mode and in iTunes I pressed the left shift key and clicked Restore. I directed iTunes to the ipsw file created by Snowbreeze.

After all of this, I always get error 3194 from iTunes.

Any suggestions or help? I feel like I'm missing something small.

I think you are good to go EXCEPT the last bit. Using sn0wbreeze it is not enough just to be in good old DFU mode. You have to be in a special pwnd DFU mode. Sn0wbreeze allows you to do this, but you must use snowbreeze, not do it yourself.
Open sn0wbreeze and choose the "iREB" menu at the top, and run it. This is what puts you into pwnd DFU mode. Then you can use iTunes to shift-restore the sn0wbreeze IPSW file...

Also, don't overcomplicate things with your hosts file. You have TU. Why don't you just run it and "Start TSS Server". Then your hosts file is managed for you...

Thanks for the advice!

I put the iPad into pwnd DFU mode and turned on the TSS Server in TinyUmbrella.

Then I loaded the ipsw file in iTunes. A few minutes later, I received iTunes error 21. Googleing that error didn't help much.

I tried it a few more times and kept getting the same error.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

That sounds normal. You have a 3G iPad right? At the end of the firmware restore, the baseband gets updated. Apple won't sign the 4.3.1 baseband. However, that doesn't matter to us.

When you get to this stage, you need to let the iPad reboot, then you use TinyUmbrella to fix and kick the device out of recovery mode. The buttons for this are at the top right. You can do this now. You don't need to restore again.

After you kick it out, it will appear to STILL be in recovery mode. This is where you need to connect it to iTunes because it is "factory fresh".

I have no idea what I did but I tried loading iOS 4.3.1 a few more times and finally it loaded without any errors.

I did everything I said in my first post, used the TSS Server in UT and used Snowbreeze to put it into pwnd DFU mode like you said to and after about 3 or 4 tries, it finally worked.

Oh well, I'm a happy camper again.
