Poor apple can't win. Put in high quality cameras and they'd all be moaning about the choppy quality of FaceTime.
Me I find it great for copying letters, receipts, quotes etc..

Apple chooses parts based on the market, they never give or put everything on one device, my opinion is they believe users like them because of their flaws and imperfections, makes apple more personal computing like, P.Cs where users will want to jail break, etc etc

This is really one of the ONLY features that the iPad lags behind the Xoom. The picture quality is much better on the Xoom, both on the front facing camera and rear. Not really a big deal with all of the other things it does so well.
