ipad 2 restarts pc

Help my daughter recieved an ipad2 for christmas (whoohoo) but when i hook it up to the pc (windows xp sp3) it restarts the pc if i leave it plugged in it will continue to restart the pc.
I have updated usb drivers and uninstalled printer to solve conflicts (did not work)
ipod and memory cards work fine when plugged into same usb port however samsung galaxy 2 restarts same pc if connected
what do i need to change, uncheck etc to fix this issue?????
