Electronista reports today that according to Digitimes, Apple is expecting a big increase in iPad 2 sales this summer. Panel maker Chimei Innolux is projecting that it will ship 400,00 to 500,000 iPads in June, before doubling that figure in July to break the one million mark. After studying these figures, as well as manufacturing data from TPK and Wintek, Digitimes has concluded that Apple could very well achieve shipments of 3.5 to 4 million iPads per month this summer, or 10.5 to 12 million for the quarter, which would be a landmark figure for Apple, representing the first time that it had sold more than 10 million iPads in a quarter. Digitimes says that whether or not this is doable depends on Chimei being able to keep up with the extra demand. If Apple and Digitimes do manage to pull it off though, Electronista notes that such stellar figures would put the likes of Acer’s Iconia Android tablet well and truly in the shade, with a forecast of just 1 million tablets shipped for the whole spring period. And that’s all before iOS 5 is released!
