iPad fails to appear in Windows 7 and iTunes

Hi

I have an iPad which I am trying to sync with iTunes (latest version) on a Windows 7 Lenovo W500 laptop.

When the iPad is plugged in I get the "bleep" to signify Windows knows it is there but it does not show in iTunes or Windows Explorer or as a device.

I have looked around the net and followed advice there and upgraded all drivers on the laptop to the latest version however this has had no effect.

Can anyone assit me. Basically I need to sync with iTunes and transfer bought items from my iPad to iTunes.
