I bought an IPad Mini about a month or 2 ago before they came out with the new one. How do you tell if it's a 1st or 2nd Gen. And do you need to run a anti-virus on it. New to Ipad.
If you bought it before the 2nd gen came out, it's pretty certain you have a 1st gen.The biggest difference is the Retina display on the 2nd gen. If you have 4G version, the 1st gen has a black plastic antenna cover on the back, the new models don't. And if you bought your 1st gen after October 22, it's only 16GB - once the 2nd gen dropped it became the only model with 32GB and 64GB options.
And the last question.
Not only do you not need to run anti-virus/malware software on the iPad, you can't.
iPads are different than PCs. So far, there is no known reason to worry about antivirus software on any idevice (iPhones, iPads, iPods).
Not saying you're wrong, but playing devil's advocate: Why couldn't malware/tracking sites enter via the web browser and (malware, et all) find their way to the operating system? Runnng Ghostery on my PC, I am amazed at the number of tracking elements that are blocked. V
