I've got the 16gb ipad mini.
WHen i sync it to itunes, it says I've got 13.8gb free
..... which is fine because 2.2gb is probably used for the OS and others~

Here's where it gets tricky.
I've got a photo album that only cost 660MB when i right click -> 'properties'.
However, when I sync that particular photo album to my ipad using itunes,
it says I've now got 11.40gb free which suggested that the supposedly 660mb
that was initially imported to the ipad suddenly becomes 2.4gb

What's the meaning of this?
I just got cheated 1.74gb by importing that file.
Or perhaps is there a program that you guys can recommend aside from
itunes with regards to this file transfer to your ipad thingy?

The gigabyte may be of photos stored in your iPad's camera roll (taken on the iPad)

Go to Settings > Usage and tap on Photos & Camera when it shows up under the Storage list. This will give you a break down of your photo storage. The photos synced through iTunes should show up under Photo Library.

Exploring the other apps may offer other clues as to what's new or may have gotten synced when you were not looking.

At the bottom of iTunes on the computer, when the iPad is connected and selected, will show a rough breakdown of storage type and size. Mouse over each section for it's description (brief) and size.

You'll notice the Other section. This is temporary (and not so temporary) storage being used by the system. It can be pretty big at times. A second sync and/or a restart of the iPad often clean this up, at least to some degree. Clearing data and cookies from Safari might help as well, but I'm not certain of that.

Strange. Typically iTunes makes pictures smaller than the originals when it syncs.

All I can suggest is removing them, by turning off Photo syncing then sync again, check it all over for any strangeness int he original folder, and give it another try.

Good luck.

I had this kind of thing happen on my 16GB wifi model before I upgraded to a 64GB Celular. I seem to remember I disconnected and restarted Itunes. That sorted it. I was also kidna confused and thougth woa *** ;-)
