With my Apple TV (3) I can also stream from my computer via iTunes. I just select my computer on the Apple TV and pick the music or movie I want and there it is.
Edit, you can also stream from iPhone (at least 4s and above) and iPad wirelessly to Apple TV. For $99 it is a bargain.
